top whatever list of '07

oh, 2007. i look forward to your departure. i appreciate what i learned. but go - go - go!! yay for a new upcoming year. here's my list of thank you's '07:

10. travel. from paris to napa valley to mexico to port aransas to new york to marfa and a few smaller trips sprinkled in - wow. i can only hope the travel in 08 is equally stellar, cheap, and plentiful.

9. reconnecting with old friends. from an ex who i wanted to maul when we first broke up to two dear ole fellas from UD. what an extraordinary way to experience who i used to be through the lens of who i am now. awesomeness. to peter s. - there's always a special place in my heart for you. to tony k. - travel well and we'll miss you. to kyle p. - who knew when we were geeks in the 11th grade uil literary criticism that it would all come to this?!

8. meeting new friends. the laundry list of new friends in my life is endless. there are some special ones.... jayme - darlin' two people couldn't be more alike in the weirdest of ways. cindy - YOU are such an inspiration. the marfa eight - we all knew each other but we didn't KNOW each other. yay, ladies. yay.

7. bikram yoga. paul and i discovered bikram in july. what a difference it has made in our lives. i have muscles i never thought possible! we sleep better, drink more water, have clear skin, and firm abs! i can't say enough good things about it. email me and tag along to a class sometime. it'll be great!

6. la reunion. seriously. this thing is incredibly humbling. i adore creating the change i want to see in my community. it's hard. it's even downright ludicrous sometimes. but that's not really my judgement to make. all i do as the director is the best i can with the resources i have. we've come a long way with a great team. moving forward is scary and super duper fun but i wouldn't have it any other way.

5. the hoffman process. it changed my life in the way having a kid or getting married does. i have dear, dear friends for life. can't recommend it enough.

4. art conspiracy. who knew several years ago this thing would be what it is. i mean, i'm one proud mama. it makes sense, is inspiring as all get out and does wonderful things for our community. i look forward to many more years of art con goodness.

3. being blind-sided. it's not entirely a strange thing to be thankful for! being blind-sided is painfully enlightening. the good kind of change happens when you experience hell and just keep going. didn't churchill say something like that once? yeah. being completely blind-sided in '07 was actually awesome.

2. yvonne. oh yvonne. we have known each other so long. she's still my dearest gal pal. she'd ride a tsunami with me. oh wait, she did in 07. i love you, sweetie.

1. paul. kids. family. i just love my family. immediate, crazy, and otherwise.

bring it on '08. i've almost made it out of '07. amazing enough.

Content

the food is cooked for the family gathering at our place. the few presents are wrapped and under our awesome little silver tree. the house is clean. a lovely rearrangement of artwork around the house was had due to an unexpected (and very large) gift from a dear friend. plans to stay close to home over the next week are in place as well as numerous art and house projects. maybe even some art meetings with like-minded souls for some sarah-jane-hair-brained-ness. my goodness, 2007 has simultaneously been the worst year and best year of my 32 years - all at once - and if this is how it culminates, so be it. i wish you all peace and joy with your families and travels.

i love you paul.
i love you eva.
i love you jiri.

king bucks

highlight this week was shooting rehearsal for the king bucks. and then dancing for hours at the barley house with chad. we were super under-dressed in a crowd of super over-dressed smu kids. we could have been in morrocco, that's how much we didn't fit in. amazing good times.

art con III

mama and eva.JPG

so many highlights to this year's art con. my highlight? the above is a photo of me and my girl (with newly shorn hair). she was finally big enough to go for a bit. i'm sure i have more to say later but for now, i am still processing the goodness and basking in the post art con glow. i'm in love with this community and am inspired by their generosity. i'm also a brand new super-fan of red monroe. those boys can ROCK! more later. pictures of install here. and the event here.

my cats would love this! er, not.

I'm not sure if this wig would best be suited for William Jefferson, Fredweena, or Freckles. I know this: I am smitten. Kitty Wigs. I know waaay too many people who know this Subversive Cross Stitch gal, Julie Jackson. It's only a matter of time, I suppose...
