breather

april is finally over. well, soon it will be. what a long and twisted month of events, self-discovery, and surprizes. here's a pic from the birthday party at sons. it's just me. i always joke there are never pics of me at events unless i take them myself....

DSC_0113.JPG

in other news, i'm sitting in the airport at the tale end of a looooong, bittersweet day alone in lubbock. my grandmother died in january and i had to come out here and deal with still more STUFF and it may be that i never have to come back. between appointments today, i worked furiously at coffee shops. three of them to be exact. it's finals week here and how awesome is it people thought i too was like 20 years old and studying.... yeeeeah. not so much.

it might be my art that saves me

made a new collage last night. it's chaotic and weird. the others have had such a direct hit into my subconscious, it's frightening, and so i wonder what the time and space and perspective will tell me about this one. seriously, that's what i love about art : it reveals the Truth with a capital T in many ways. i was telling someone yesterday that the place i like to hang out in is the place where philosophy, mathematics, God, and art all sorta collide and reveal much of the same stuff. the chaos i feel is probably only a reflection of the chaos i may have caused. there's other stuff in there too, but prolly not appropriate for a blog that is, y'know, public.

Wednesday, April 25, 2007 @ 09:27 AM proof that i'm a nerd

...

i've been taking a slew of non-profit management courses through the center for non profit management lately. i'm in the leadership course offered through the smu campus this semester and whenever i can get into any other seminars, i do. today i spent the morning learning about strategic planning and this afternoon several hours getting informed on directors and officers insurance over at paul quin college. it's like being in school again - sorta - except i LOVE learning all this stuff. partly because i'm learning out of necessity and partly because i am already doing some of it and just honing in my skillz.

it's a yuckie-poo day in dallas today. rainy, humid, and lonely. i've been rearranging my work space at home lately and am getting my workflow more and more streamlined. that's fantastic stuff. the lonely part comes in when i space out and look at the trees next to my office and think about how i used to imagine the trees created the wind. not that the wind moves the trees. there's a philosphical analogy to my life in there somewhere. now i'm just confused.

in other more fabulous news.... sonic youth is playing marfa open house in october! (it was in the marfa ballroom newsletter. can't find it on their site or chinati's site. must not be official-official yet.) this is the best news of the week. i'll agree with my pal cari when i say this - i too want to be kim gordon when i grow up. oh hells yes. the trip to marfa this october with the girls will be stellar.

Tuesday, April 24, 2007 @ 05:16 PM

ooooo. i think i love spring now

clean curtains. clean pillows. clean house. clean sheets. yard work. mixed house projects. something to throw. myself. into. somewhere to put THIS. something to do to channel THIS into goodness and productivity.

paradigm shifts are astonishing like that. traveling through life in your own bs and thinking life is one way and in a moment realizing it just isn't and never was that way is breath taking.

gratitude : for the birds in my yard. the sprouting crepe myrtles. the beautiful breeze drafting through my house. the sound of kids running on wood floors. coffee. the little dog at my feet who lies in the sun. life experience. truth prevailing. clean curtains.
