eva mimms
eva turns 7 tomorrow. SEVEN. where has the time gone? i swear, i was pregnant with her like, just last week or something. a few weeks ago, i asked her how she wanted to celebrate. after weighing out the pros and cons of big blow-out party vs. sleepover, we decided on sleepover. so, tonight, eva and two of her girl scout pals and i are going to see curious george. and then out to dinner. after trying to sway her to restaurants I want to go to (cosmic cup, kalachanji's, thai lotus etc) SHE, my sweet sweet love, chose mai's.
my hot date tonight: curious george. and vietnamese food. and a sleepover. (FUN!!) tomorrow? presents! (a bike w/o training wheels) and her favorite dinner that we cook. she's still trying to decide....

Wednesday, February 22, 2006 @ 01:40 PM proof that i'm a nerd
not sure why i'm posting this here, but...
so i have my annual exam in a couple hours. and for me, it's more like my-every-two-years-exam. i loathe going. DREAD. and here's the scoop: because i know everyone and it IS so 'comfortable', i hate it. i'd rather go to someone i don't know in some ways.
see, i used to run the office at a birthcenter here in town. i had eva there and delivered jiri at home under the supervision of one of the midwives. i've witnessed literally hundreds of births and totally understand women's health and breast feeding and std's and gross female medical equipment. the owner, cherie, and i are fast friends. when i worked there, i was able to bring my kids to the office and get paid to hang out with my children. it was a stressful job in some ways, due to the sheer volume of work, but i adored working with expectant mothers. as an aside: the two groups of women that let all their drama hang out and are highly emotional: pregnant women and women about to get married. i work with both and both have the potential of driving me out of my mind. but i digress.
i have many bizarre and yet still cute-n-innocent stories of bringing the kids to work with me for those 5 years. the thing they'd get into. the things we'd do to pass the time.
so i say to eva this morning: "mama has to go to the midwife for an exam and you guys are going to hang out in the exam room and quietly play while i talk to miss lynne."
long pause....
eva: "and we can play with the hand balloons! awesome!"
{the picture above is an outtake from a series i did a few years ago.... taking ob/gyn equipment and photographing it on the exam table paper by the light of the vag-light. seemed appropriate at the time.}

one year ago
nyddia and stephen lapthisophon and myself had a weird valentine's day together.... running all over town, shooting pictures, talking about art, and just hanging out. we even had a picnic on turtle creek. what a great day. the weather today was similar to what it was last year. i think i'll call him later and see how he is.
read here. last year's account.
oh. and before i forget! to my sweet live-in year round valentines: i love you.
Tuesday, February 14, 2006 @ 02:55 PM
beware: it's a rambler.
not too much to say lately. well, really a lot, but not fit for public consumption. the reality of how much my life is always changing is rearing its head: you should see the pile of girl scout cookies in my living room. my gosh. expect calls/emails soon, people. checks can be made out to 'girl scouts of tejas council.'
i could mention my weekend, i suppose. i whisked my sweet husband away to denton (of all places), a location only dictated by the close proximity of my sister, who watched the children while we were gone. we went to the coffee shop and gawked at college kids. and while it seems like just yesterday i was one, now they all look like little kids. we checked out the vinyl at the used book/record store and had dinner at the pan-asian place. we had a beer and a game of darts at 'the loop hole' and attended the art prostitute opening. after plunking down 10 bones, i got the back of my cute, but cheap, target corduroy coat screen printed. i feel all custom now.
there's a couple of openings this week, i should mention and that will most assuredly get more web time later in the week, but..... shannon sullivan at sozo on thursday PM from 7 to 9. i love this girl's work and cannot express how badly i want one. and i think i might just get one. it's the most lovely stuff. also, saturday is carissa's show at continental from 7 to 10. this girl is one amazing photographer. i adore her work and am very proud to be showing it. she's got 'it' people. go to www.pigeonstoneproject.com for addresses and teaser images etc etc.
ah, and lest i forget: i'm super excited to go see the SMU production of the vagina monologues. hey, if i'm gonna participate in such nonsense as a manufactured halmark holiday, what better way to do it? i'm glad paul is on board with this kind of cynical sentiment. not many folks get it. 'cause there's nothing cheesier than a bad pink ice heart pendant followed by a really bad steak dinner and some cheap roses. end of rant.

teaser on new projects
hmmm. the cat's almost ready to be out of the bag with regards to new and upcoming projects with the beautiful catherine cuellar. after some continuing education this morning, i'm fully inspired and ready to go. it's all totally possible. and certainly not rocket science.
in other news, i'm going to be eva's brownie troop leader next year.
Tuesday, February 07, 2006 @ 04:58 PM

gallery hop
tonight, i'm gallery hopping with nyddia (so i stay out of trouble. HA!):
south side on lamar teenage fanclub. so many good artists showing including mr. stephen lapthisophon. i miss working with him. talk about inspiring. i can't wait to see what he's putting into the show. actually a lot of artists i've worked with are showing in this one as well as the next one....
at the bath house cultural center, driver. about making the shift from traditional to new media. this is a closing reception with the exhibit coming down tomorrow, i think. i particularly want to see the tim stokes/kyle kondas piece:

getting cast - and not in a play
my gosh, what a weird experience. i can't blow all her trade secrets, but kate's totally on to something. i love what she's doing. i believe in it. it was lovely, albeit mildly uncomfortable (scalding hot) getting cast. i'm looking forward to seeing the series complete.

body cast
i met kate for lunch after a studio visit to check out a whole new body of work. and i don't use the word 'body' as a metaphor. it's really a bunch of bodies. draped with red fabric and then smothered in plastic. gorgeous, gorgeous stuff. so intimate. i want to climb under the covers with all of them, although they're not sexual. i can't explain it. they're really really cool. snuggly and yet very sensual. anyway, she wants to do one of me. i think after the reception tonight, i'm going to head out to her studio and let her. pictures tomorrow. how exciting.
Thursday, February 02, 2006 @ 02:46 PM
pictures. finally. warning: sarah jane is grumpy.
pictures finally posted.
not to complain, but i have too much to do. how can i ever make it through my list? if i can just get through the pigeon-stone phase-out sane and complete and with everyone not pissed at me for leaving the project, i'll be fine. i'm simultaneously over and under committed. and this gnarly scratchy throat is making me insane. *growl*.
