post from an airport
Ooof. it’s been an interesting weekend/week. here’s some pics.
some pretty cool renovations at yvonne’s house.
but it wasn’t all work and no fun…. we went out on magazine street on our last night in new orleans. yvonne took this pic of me and andrea:
then an amazing Halls of the Machine dinner party, featuring these beautiful souls, whom I adore: (michael, mike, zack, and eric)
and last night, a visit to Jason Barnett’s studio. He’s my last artist at IR. It’s a mildly disturbing-and-yet-not-what-one-might-first-think-sort-of-show…. the reception is july 16.
folks, there’s a million more pics. and a million more things going on now. suffice it to say, it’s a rough time in sarah-jane-land. If yer the prayin’ type, please say a little one for me.

long weekend
So the other day, Eva gets stung by two honets at a friend's house. One on her neck, the other on her arm. She screamed for literally 20 minutes, while I put ice on it, baking soda, and some kind of cream.... I seriously thought she was over-reacting, blowing a hornet's sting out of proportion.
Well yesterday, I ate my words when I had one crawl up my pant leg while hanging out laundry and sting me three times in approximately the same spot. I screamed for longer than 20 minutes and cried and cried like I haven't since I was a baby. The hornet's sting was by faaaaaar one of the most painful things I've ever felt in my life. I fear them now, it's official. Yesterday was life changing for me.
moving on:
the show Saturday night was fantabulous with an amazing turnout. Aside from the fact that I am the ringmaster of any and all events at IR Gallery, it was just a great party. I don’t think it was possible to come by on Saturday evening and not have a good time. Cathey is a superb artist and super cool to be around.
also, just had to post these pics. Andrea and I were toni and guy models for a friend of ours who is ‘testing out’ to get on the ‘art team’. I haven’t done much modeling before, which is a blessing, considering I’m 5’10”. I could never make this a career choice, although it is fun occasionally. Andrea and I are girls that take like 10 minutes getting ready. It took 5 hours to get us ready for our walk. With a team of people. Unreal. But it was fun.

must-read observer article
usually c.t.'s (no decent link for her) art reviews in the dallas observer make me shudder. mostly because i don't know wtf she's saying, i mean she is from hah-vahd and all....
but this one, this one is brilliant and so right on. i didn't even have to read it twice (or three times for that matter). rock on.
yay! i run the anti-goss-gallery!

polly anna
life just seems to be falling apart 'round here. not necessarily in the semrad house, but all around it. everyone we know, it seems, is going through some astonishing catastrophe. major life events. stuff they'll look back on and say "gosh, remember that time when such and such was going on.... damn."
some of it is intertwined, some of it is not but change is most certainly in the air, even with us. upheaval. and ultimately beauty, i believe.
love to all of you. in dallas and beyond.
thank goodness for paul and many thanks to mary for the picture.

what would a psychologist say?
jiri runs in from the backyard and picks up the phone.
jiri: "hi mom. what is with me?"
me: "hey can i get you a glass a water, you look hot."
jiri: "i can't play baseball."
me: "did you catch a ball?"
jiri: "no. byyyyyeee."
hangs up phone.
i don't know why, but the whole exchange kinda broke my heart.

clever title about producing shows and shooting pictures here
cathey miller’s show is phenomenal, people. eye candy. after we hung the show last night, and i was tweaking lights and such, no less than 10 people came by and commented. and this morning? four emails as a direct result…. reception is next saturday, june 18 from 7-9. and here's the article in the observer this week. rock on.
and tonight, messing around with long exposures:
our chichuahua-dog, echo-sita.
and our front yard. (that’s daniel on the phone.)

ramblings
most of my time in the last couple weeks has been trying to find chunks of time to work on a wedding i shot:
over 800 pictures! yowza. minor tweaking, conversion to black and white and trying to get them online in these really cool albums that carissa made me hip to. i'm done with the tweaking and am fighting with getting them online. it's probably so incredibly easy, i just can't make it happen. ack. hey daniel: i'm lookin at you. and i'll be by this evening to mooch on the high speed access and pick yer brain. *flutters eyes*
it's summer again, which means that my life revolves around hanging laundry out on the line:
i'm vaguely obsessed with it. i like the way the clothes smell while i'm folding them. and it ain't the bounty freshness you buy in a bottle. it's more like grass clippings and oak cliff exhaust. but i still like it.
other weekend activities? going to the lake:
jiri is notorious for taking anyone by the hand and leading them off to show them, you know, whatever…. in this pic, he happens to have monopolized my cousin byron.
going to the airplane museum:
(did you know the Saudi jet has an operating room on it?)
schoolwork:
running through the sprinkler:
we have a good time.

benefit for cory
several dallas bands are getting together at club dada on saturday evening to raise cash for a very sweet boy, cory helms. he plays bass for the chemistry set and found out earlier this year he had cancer, out of the blue. my good friend tania is organizing the entire thing, which is so bad-ass. she asked me to do a late night photo shoot at minc last week for the press images. here's the full article in the observer. although i took the above picture (my first publication, ever) and am a huge fan of just about every band playing, i won't be attending. but if you're reading this, you should conisider going. it looks like it'll be a blast. not to mention it's incredibly awesome for everyone to rally around someone else like this. it makes me happy just thinking about it.
