thievery.

is it wrong to be a bit weird about folks stealing my images for their live journal or other some such sites as background or their main image, acting like they shot the pic or something? i guess not. yuck though. i just like getting the credit. i suppose there are other things in life to be upset about... this happens all the time. alas.

a comical case in point.

many many things

1. saw downfall last night. it left me with far more questions than answers, if anything. it's disjointing to watch, much in the way many war movies with lots of gunfire and sirens and subtitles are. nonetheless, it's a movie worth checking out.

2. i spoke today at ud to an art seminar class with nyddia at the invitation of one of the students, mirka. i think i might like speaking in front of loads of people. i wasn't nervous at all and didn't have anything written down to go from. we talked about pigeon-stone project and what/how/why we're doing it. the class seemed to 'get it' and asked many questions. i think we were sucessful in communicating we are about an emergent street-level group of artists.

3. i finally feel rested from the last month. the psp-launch party and zach's opening at IR coupled with the mustache party about did me in.... only to hang a show with 15 artists for a show that happend last friday and two other PSP receptions at some of our other venues. i'm going to be better about putting information about those shows here too.

4. last, a couple of short clips from the live performance of american blackbelt academy ripped straight from my friend kevin's website. enjoy! here's one. here's another.

IR Gallery : 4.16.05 : Zach Broadhurst

newfineart-fontside(example).jpg

tonight. New Fine Art by Zachary Broadhurst. 7-9 PM at IR Gallery. His work deals with typeface and the illusion of protection and vulnerability. it's cool.

continental page updated!

the show is finally online. please let me know what you think. the party is tonight. come one, come all. also, here's the artist statement schpiel:

"An undercurrent is moving beneath the Dallas art scene, a parallel universe to what the common perception is. There are amazing, undiscovered artists living and working among us—hosting a subtle collaboration. These photographs provide a narrative, yet still participate in the conversation."

Featured artists and conspirators include Nicholas Mathis, Austin Turley, Zachary Broadhurst, John Kim, Luke Harnden, Patrick Rhodes, Nyddia Hannah and Daniel Miller. Due to the limited amount of prints, many amazing artists were left off the shoot-list for this show, such as Grant Guilliams, Nan Martin, Jason Roskey and Joey Seeman.

Sarah Jane's photographic output choice is lith printing, which is an alternative developing process with mid-tones in the pink to russet range. It's a delicate balance of chemicals, paper choice, temperature, selenium toner and exposure that makes up each print. Uncontrollable variables in the printing process cause each photograph to be completely unique. Few photographers utilize this technique due to problems with reproducibility.

Sarah Jane is co-director of IR Gallery in Expo Park and co-founder of Pigeon-Stone Project. She is an active member of numerous artist organizations and participates in solo and group exhibitions throughout the year. Sarah Jane is self-taught in photography, but holds a degree in chemistry from the University of Dallas.

April 15 : Continetnal : uh, me

boiling-below-the-surface.JPG
from the studios of Mathis, Rhodes, & Harnden.

4.15.05 from 7-10 PM. It's the official Pigeon-Stone Project launch party featuring photographs I've taken over the last several months of some of the artists Nyddia and I have been working with. The Tah-Dahs are playing and the event is catered by Peter James Catering. We'll have some really cool PSP t-shirts for sale too. Undeniable Records, the Tah-Dahs and Happy Bullets record label will be there too!

I think I might just attend this one. Sounds like a good time to me.

sara(h) smile.

paul's birthday was yesterday! happy b-day, belated. (don't worry people, he got a nice dinner and a cake... :)

in other news, nyddia and i spent the better part of today painting the Continental Gallery space. my show is framed and in the order they'll be hung in. RELIEF!!! she's going to hang my show tonight and i'm hanging broadhurst's work tonight. (who, incidentally, got a super bad-ass write up in the observer.

and last, my hall and oates obsession continues.... other than they spelled 'sara' wrong, what's with this song?:

sara smile

Baby hair with a woman’s eyes
I can feel you watching in the night
All alone with me and we’re waiting for the sunlight
When I feel cold you warm me
When I feel I can’t go on you come and hold me
It’s you... and me forever

Sara smile
Won’t you smile a while for me

If you feel like leaving you know you can go
But why don’t you stay until tomorrow?
And if you want to be free, all you have to do is say so
When you feel cold, I’ll warm you
And when you feel you can’t go on, I’ll come and hold you
It’s you... and me forever

Sara smile
Won’t you smile a while for me

future memories.

when i'm a crotchedy-old-mean-lady, i will look back on these days fondly. frames stacked 20 deep in my living room, frantically trying to get prints together. the kids being little. music and parties and art.

"everytime i see you walkin' i can tell you're talkin' to yourself"
chad and paul playing in the living room.

nyddia on the computer in the back.

moving on..... but more on that later.

kinda' boring pope commentary

when i lived in rome in 1995, going to school, partying too hard, etc etc, i had an opportunity to go to loreto, italy and attend a youth-rally-thing with the pope. mostly all the catholic kids went, for obvious reasons, but i went because i knew nothing about catholicism and wanted to see what the big deal was.

i had the best time. i tuned my walkman into the english translation of what the pope was saying and later took this picture of the pope as he wheeled by in his pope mobile:

pope.jpg

there was so much life and connection and a seemingly endless love that sortof trailed around all of us that night. i might have even cried, i was so happy.

the whole pope thing still kindof eludes me. but he really was a magically generous and inspirational guy. i'm kinda sad he's gone.
