yay for sound installation!
i'm all about inviting my artists to dinner. :) it's confirmed. mike graff of halls of the machine, formerly of course of empire, will be performing atmospheres for lovers and sleepers in a two night sound installation may 14 and 15 from 8-10 both nights at ir gallery.
it's long been a dream of mine to merge both my groups of peeps.... visual/musical and cram them all together in one room and see what happens. folks tend to 'get' one or the other or maybe feel more comfortable with one or the other. i can not wait for the cross-pollention to occur.

problems in darkroom land
everytime i try to order my favorite lith developer, i run into this problem: scarcity
it seems it's only manufactured on a limited basis because no one uses the product. terribly unfortunate for me. in addition, my favorite paper, forte polywarmtone fibre in glossy, is no longer being made. and it's scarce. my backup paper? ilford. and they're getting out of the b&w business too.
looks like the days of me making paper, emulsion, chemicals from scratch are looming. yay! an excuse to justify the time!
one minor-tiny-little detail..... i have a show in about 3 weeks and enough lith to do about 6 prints.
dee-light-ful.

just say no.
there's a difference between working hard and working too hard. the latter applies to me on some days. i'm debating on what to say 'no' to in life. i tend to be a 'yes' about 90% of the time. "yeah, let's do it, right on!" i gotta get some boundries going.
like now.

Patrick Rhodes : IR Gallery : reception tonight!
Tonight at IR Gallery: Installation/mixed-media by Patrick Rhodes. Reception 7-9 PM.
It's also the same night as the WISH auction over at The Contemporary, which is the event to go to among some circles. It's fun, to be sure, I volunteered last year. Luckily, Patick's show is BRILLIANT and anyone who comes by tonight will be blown away.

Stephen Lapthisophon at IR Gallery
The Lapthisophon install has been going great. Yesterday and today have been preoccupied with staples and xerox copies and ladders. Stephen is wonderful to work with and tends to be very intuitive when composing. it's cool to watch. The show is an investigation of the life and thinking of Robert Smithson and is one night only, tomorrow, from 6-10 PM at IR Gallery. i'm looking forward to it myself.
in other news: Jiri has joined the Happy Bullets:
They're trying to sign him on as the full time keyboardist, but as his mama, i say there might some child labor laws in place to prevent that. rawk on.
last, a cute image of rachel and i at the candle room saturday night. THAT PLACE IS INTENSE! yowza.

robert smithson
the robert smithson exhibit at the DMA is a must see. nyddia and i went last night with the kids, which was a mild disaster. they didn't run through any piles of sand or throw rocks, to be sure, but they certainly didn't let us actually read anything. i could have spent an hour or two walking around with a camera. in fact, i think i might have to go back on one of my kid-free days. the show is up through april 3 and thursday nights are free at the DMA, just fyi.
tues march 15 at IR Gallery, chicago artist stephen lapthisophon is doing a one-night only investigation of the philosophy of robert smithson. 6-10 pm. coincides nicely, eh?

what the world needs now
the april 15 continental show is coming along nicely. i'm starting to print for it. photographing these artists for the last couple-few months has been enlightening and i'd forgotton how intimate it truly is.
i've been blessed to become a part of their space and work and process, even for a nanosecond of time. this image was taken in luke harnden's studio. he will be a big name one day, so please remember it. talent beyond belief.
in other news, last night i got to see burt. despite the geriatric crowd, he still rocked the house. guilty pleasure, to be sure.
thanks josh for the great seating. :)

updates galore
JERK is coming along nicely. we've been asked to help produce the 'dallas issue' by the editor. the art prostitute article that nyddia and i did is done. she talked and i photographed and added commentary. i'll post it when i figure out how to do 'extended entry' stuff on this thing.
the pigeon-stone project site is up and semi-running. still so much more to do on it, but for now it won't waste your time if you go there. nyddia and i have found curators for all the venues thus far and are plugging along on forms, forms, and more forms. yeah, actually implementing is H.A.R.D. ideas are a dime a dozen. action is where it's at. i'm so happy i found nyddia. and daniel. and all the people i'm working with right now.
today? i think i take the day off and hang out with the babies. work after they go to bed. i started printing for my show in april yesterday and some of them are just phenomenal. maybe i'll print some more late tonight.... i've been neglecting that part of me for WEEKS!
