the trip to isla mujeres was fun. the best part was just being with friends and still getting to run off and play. josh and jen's wedding was picture perfect and looked like something out of a story book. simply gorgeous. every detail was accounted for. their families were a delight and i pretty much fell in love with josh's grandma. it was nice to be there as a guest and not the hired photographer - so nice. i got to hang back and just take the pictures i wanted to take.

i had some issues with the island itself i suppose. as beautiful as the sea and sky were, it seemed to be a place that caters exclusively to tourists. and american ones at that. i struggled that we paid american prices for everything from hotel to food (ok, beer was slightly less) to trinkets for the kids and yet the locals lived in corrugated tin and cardboard structures with no running water on the center of the island. maybe it's judgemental of me to say it's not fair or they're not happy or whatever. maybe they are! i know this, i said many prayers for peace and well being to the families on the island. for safety for the little babies hanging off the back of mopeds and the patience of wait staff to deal with demanding drunk people on vacation.

good to be home. good to cull through pictures. good to see kids. good to get back at it. travel inspires me. i'm in a good place right now.
