green is sexy

so, i picked up the new issue of Dwell Magazine the other day at Wholier-than-thou-Foods because i was lured by the 'green goes mainstream' cover story. having been what i would call green for many, many years now, i wanted to see what this meant in the context of such a foxy looking design magazine.

after reading it from cover to cover, my conlusion is to say 'yay!' to everyone jumping on the green band wagon. there are a few sustainable communities going up around dallas: one near royal lane, one in the cedars, and one in denton (i'll accumulate links later). probably more. everyone has a hybrid car, it seems, and most folks i know are installing compact fluorescent light bulbs faster than you can say 'al gore'.

here's the scoop with me: i'm no hippy-granola-eating-militant. i'm a mama. and the thought of my babies growing up thinking they can have WHAT they want WHEN they want at the expense of not only our planet, but those in lower socio-economic groups keeps me up at night. i awaken from terrible dreams where there's not enough water and it's too hot to think. when i look at the sky and see the long white lines and watch all the geek-out pbs science shows and really think about what we're eating and where it came from, i start to totally freak out. fortunately, la reunion is helping me focus some of that panic into something productive. i get to channel my angst with something i love: art and artists.
