long weekend
edward's show was a smash. tons of people came out just because of the press in the observer. it's a great summer start-off show and one dosn't have to think too hard to enjoy the work. it's fun. in fact, it's perfect work for start-up collectors. these paintings are also incredibly authentic to who edward is. anybody else painting these ladies would look like a fool. edward though, lives and breathes mod culture in dallas, so it only makes sense this is his current body of work.
after the reception saturday, nyddia and i headed over to 'the smoke' at edward's venue for a classic mod night. we left before it really got going, but not before i could shoot nicole and nyddia spinning in their awesome dance dresses....
there was this weird habit i used to be in way back like 8 or 9 years ago where i'd dress from head to toe as someone else.... a wig, a cute little vintage dress, a brooch (before they became so flippin' hip) and a precious little clutch..... i would be good to go. i used to take on different personas a little bit and prance around doing crazy stuff in the character i'd invented. i pulled out my patsy cline wig for the IR show and 'the smoke' and proceeded to continue my night out at the cavern to check out a couple bands.
one such band was 'the good looks' from austin. i know, terrible name, but they rocked the house. amazing stage presence and an ability to keep it together. i think they come back through dallas at the end of june or in july sometime. i will be back to see them.
after the good looks we got to hear the tah-dahs.... one of my local favorites. i just love roy.
sunday paul whisked me away to a bed and breakfast.... sigh. he's so romantic.
