ryan answered the ad that paul placed on good records bulletin board, scrawled in purple crayon that said something like, "bass player needed. influences include velvet underground, luna, yo la tengo..." jiri was maybe 5 months old. they began practicing regularly and an odd little friendship was formed.
since then, jiri has grown to be almost four and ryan has progessed up into management in a mutual theatre entity that paul, him and me share. ryan is moving tomorrow to chicago and spent his last night in dallas having dinner with us. i will miss him so much. an era is ending. and it's surprisingly emotional.
